Fragile States
(with a focus on maternal and child health)
As part of a multi-donor exercise to deepen our understanding of health programming in post-conflict and fragile environments, USAID requested that BASICS provide technical assistance in collaboration with the Bureau for Democracy, Conflict and Humanitarian Assistance /Conflict Management & Mitigation, and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development/ Development Assistance Committee. This notably resulted in the development of a series of case studies and papers on the specific needs of fragile states at various stages of conflict. This work paved the way for BASICS efforts in Liberia to address potential gaps in health service delivery that can arise during the transition of post-conflict states from relief to development assistance.
