Malawi
BASICS began providing technical assistance to Malawi’s Ministry of Health in 2006 to support expansion of the country’s national program for the prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV (PMTCT), as well as other aspects of pediatric HIV/AIDS programming. The project significantly expanded its technical assistance program in Malawi in October 2007, when it began a three-year effort to improve the effectiveness, quality, and accessibility of child health services in districts with the highest rates of child morbidity and mortality, by supporting implementation of the National Strategic Plan for Accelerated Child Survival and Development in Malawi and strengthening community-based malaria interventions through mobilization of local NGOs.
