USAID/BASICS hosted Pediatric HIV and AIDS: The Path Ahead on Wednesday, May 13 from 2:00 to 3:30pm at the Washington, D.C. offices of PATH. This event is part of a series of events in 2009 organized by USAID/BASICS to share innovative strategies and lessons learned during 15 years of project implementation. See www.basics.org for the full schedule of presentations.
Pediatric HIV and AIDS: The Path Ahead was facilitated by Mary Lyn Field-Nguer and Gloria Ekpo, USAID/BASICS pediatric HIV advisors. Their presentation explored USAID/BASICS' approach to promoting and supporting early diagnosis and referral of HIV-exposed and -infected children under the age of five. These efforts have included advocacy, identification of missed opportunities in existing health programs, policy development, training, and strategic support for HIV integration into MCH, with particular emphasis on child health (including IMCI programs) and other programs such as OVC, adult ART, and home-based care.
