As part of its final year of project implementation, USAID/BASICS organized two global symposiums to share key lessons and technical approaches. Included in the series was Newborn Health: From Advocacy to Scale, which was be held from June 15 to 18 in Dakar, Senegal.
To introduce newborn health interventions, USAID/BASICS applied a number of innovative approaches to advocacy, planning, tools development, implementation, and program monitoring. The project's newborn health programs set out to initiate and implement programs in a manner that promotes expansion, sustainability and continued uptake by Ministries of Health and their implementing partners.
The purpose of hosting this interactive meeting was to provide a platform for sharing challenges, solutions, results, and lessons learned. In turn, this helped Ministries of Health and other implementers to develop or strengthen strategies aimed at expanding their programs. The meeting brought together a variety of participants, including from USAID, WHO and UNICEF, Ministries of Health, bilateral projects, and NGOs.
